War Horn
War Horn
Do you see the rhino as a strength, endurance, and survival symbol? This resonates deeply in a world where conservation and preserving natural beauty are paramount. I see this firsthand when I am in South Africa.
Rhinos are critically endangered. The sub-species northern white rhino is essentially extinct, with only two females remaining. The last male died in 2018.
I painted this piece to raise awareness of rhino issues. The red in the horn symbolizes the blood that ensues when rhinos are poached for their horns. The complicated nature of conserving these animals from poaching and the poverty surrounding them leads to their destruction, with people beyond the borders of Africa making money from their demise.
